Ties for hats. Homemade laces or how to make a lace yourself Briefly about the materials and meaning of the bauble
Greetings, dear readers of the blog site!
In today's article we will talk about ties. About ties, which are flat and not wide tucked ribbons, and are one of the types of fasteners on clothes.
Tie fasteners are used very often. They can be found in a variety of places on women's and children's clothing of any product range.
There are two types of ties:
- The first is when the tie is a part completely independent from the main product, which is used as a belt, or is threaded into the drawstring on the product. In both cases, such a “fastener is fastened” (tied) by intertwining two opposite ends of the same tape - a tie.
- The second type of ties is when two separate ribbons - ties - act as fasteners - ties. On each of them, one short transverse edge remains unsealed and with this end the ties are “inserted” (sewn in) into the required (most often opposite or symmetrical) seams of the product being sewn. “Closing” (tying) such a fastener occurs by tying the two free ends of both tapes - ties.
Ties in the form of a flat tucked ribbon can also be used for straps, bows, etc.
The tucked tape - tie can be made from both knitwear and woven materials.
Well, let's get to work!
Ties are considered to be tucked flat ribbons 0.5 - 1.5 cm wide. This means that to make a tie you will need a strip of fabric as wide as two widths of the finished tie, plus 0.5 cm for allowances on each longitudinal side. Part length according to model.
To prevent the ties from stretching and deforming, they are made from a strip of fabric cut along the grain.
There are three ways to achieve the same result, to make a tucked ribbon - a tie.
1st method.
We do everything exactly the same as during production (details there). Only the part is cut out along the grain thread, and the seam allowances are made small.
Since the tape for the ties should be flat, and not filled with allowances, as is the case with the roll.
2nd method.
We wrap the short transverse edges of a strip of fabric cut along the grain of the required width onto the wrong side.
For the first type of ribbon - ties (see above in the article) we tuck both ends, for the second one.
We bend the part - the workpiece in half, with the front side inward and iron the resulting fold.
Now, at the required distance from the fold (the width of the finished tie), we machine stitch from one edge of the part to the other. We sew bartacks at the ends of the stitching.
Using one of the methods described, we turn the part right side out, wash it and iron it.
- their short transverse edges;
- short transverse edges and one long longitudinal side;
- around the entire perimeter.
Tie No. 1, with both ends sealed, is already completely “ready” for work. Tie No. 2, with one unsealed end, still needs to be sewn into a certain seam of the product.
3rd method.
A strip of fabric of the required width, with (1) both or 2) one) short transverse sections folded,
fold it in half. But this time with the wrong side facing in.
After this, we fold the long longitudinal sections to the fold in the middle of the part.
We fasten all the folds of the material with temporary hand stitching using straight stitches.
You should try to lay the hand stitch a little away from the line of the machine stitch.
The hem at the short transverse ends (one or two) of wider ties can be further reinforced with stitches.
Original baubles with a beautiful patternA braided bracelet or bauble is not just a fashionable accessory these days. For some it is a symbol of friendship, for others it is a sign of sympathy, some complement their style with original bracelets, others try to reflect their interests and desires in the intricacies of threads. Also, someone believes in the magic of the bauble, that wishes made when tying it are sure to come true. It is worth knowing how to start and finish a bauble in order to knit a unique accessory. You can easily master the weaving technique if you know how to finish the bauble and how to make a loop on the bauble. You will see that it is actually simple.
Briefly about the materials and meaning of the bauble
You can make a bauble from threads, beads, cords, leather, ropes, and ribbons.
Baubles are a symbol of friendshipThe main thing is to master the basic knots and weaving techniques and correctly follow existing patterns. With experience, you will be able to create your own patterns, complement the bauble with decor, rhinestones, bolts, spikes, combine materials and complex colors, create designs and weave necklaces.
Bracelets with decor
As you work, you will definitely determine what this unusual decoration means to you. The bauble not only adds brightness to the image, it can say a lot about the character and affections of a person. It is easy to recognize the owner of a bauble as a romantic or more strict person, a cat lover or a rocker. The same bracelets for a guy and a girl indicate that they are a couple. Baubles can be amulets and talismans if they contain wishes or prayers when knitting them.
Actor and rock singer Jared Leto, and his famous baubles
You will learn how to make such bracelets gradually, now our article is about the most important part of the work - how to start and finish a bauble.
Basic techniques for completing a bauble
There are several ways to finish a bauble:
- Braids.
- Braiding braids with threads.
- Tourniquets.
- Loops.
- Clasps.
Determine the required number of threads. It is necessary to fasten the threads. You can stick it to the surface using tape, you can tie a knot out of threads and attach it with a pin to a pillow or a comfortable soft surface.
Different ways to secure threads
Pigtail
You need to take three threads. You can take any number of threads, just divide them into three bundles. Weave a regular braid and secure with a knot.
DIY bauble braid
You can use four threads or any even number, depending on the desired width. This way you can both make the bauble itself and finish it. The method with 4 threads is as follows: we use two middle threads, put the right middle thread on the left side, the left thread on the right side. As a result, the side threads end up in the middle. We do this until the desired length. Next we weave the main pattern according to the diagram, and at the end of the product we make exactly the same braid as at the beginning. You will tie these two braids together. Adjust the length of the bauble yourself, according to the size of your wrist.

Tourniquet
A tied braid at the ends of a bauble is an excellent alternative to braids.
A variety of beautiful bracelets will complement your style
It is done very simply: two identical bundles of threads are twisted in one direction, say, to the right. Then we connect them together, holding the already woven strands, and twist them in the opposite direction. Secure with a knot.
Making rope ties
Loop
A classic loop is woven as follows: we take half as many threads as provided in the pattern, and twice as many in length. For a buttonhole, the thread proportion is 1:10. Those. if your loop is 10 cm, then you need 1 meter of thread.
Loop fastening for baubles
Fold the threads in half and weave with a knot. One thread should be longer than the others - a knotted one; we braid it around the bundle of threads, creating a loop, then pull the working bundle into the loop and tighten it tightly. We alternate the knots - first to the right, then to the left, until the loop is ready. Next, start weaving the baubles.
Learning to make a loop
Another option to finish the bauble is to make a loop of braids.
Loop made from braids, a very simple way to secure
We braid small braids from both edges of the baubles. Then we connect the threads, again divide them into three bundles and weave another braid, securing it with a knot. We will get a small loop into which the same pigtail of the second edge of the bauble will be threaded.

Thread fastener
Another way to make a fastener is to tie two braids with a separate thread.
Bright baubles will give you a good mood
It is advisable to use the thread of the same color, although we will leave this to your discretion. There are braids on each side of the baubles. Temporarily fasten them together and begin tying them with a separate thread in a square knot. Close the knitting with a double knot, remove the temporary fastenings. The knitting should not be tight so that the braids can move freely. In order for the bracelet to have a finished look, it is always advisable to treat the ends of the threads with colorless varnish so that they do not unravel.

Other types of fasteners for bauble
The fastener for baubles can be in the form of a button, Velcro, button or strap.
Types of fasteners on baubles
Having finished the main pattern, you need to cut off all the excess threads and leave a small tail. Then glue it to the wrong side and sew the selected clasp on the bauble at the end. If these are Velcro or buttons, then sew one part on the inside of the bauble, and the second part on the outside.
Button closure
An original handmade bracelet will serve as decoration, an original gift, or a pleasant memory of a person or an event. Weaving a bauble calms, pacifies and unites, it is not for nothing that it is called a symbol of peace and friendship.
Weaving baubles is not only a great hobby, but also a stylish accessory.
Whether you need a cord for a bag, strings for a hat, or string for a bag, you have many options for making it.
Twisted cord
Calculate how long your lace should be. Add another third to this length, and then cut a piece of yarn four times longer.
Fold a piece of yarn in half and make a knot on each side. Ask a friend to hold the folded end or hang the end from a doorknob.
Twist the yarn until the cord is very tightly woven, always trying to stretch it. Pinch the yarn in the middle, then fold it in half, trying to keep the cord stretched the entire time. (If you want to make a long cord, you will need a helper.)
Slowly release a few centimeters from the folded edge of the cord so that the cord itself unfolds back. As a result, you will get a strong cord of four threads (Fig. 1).
Braided cord
Calculate how long your lace should be, then add half more to that length. You will need at least three pieces of yarn of this length. If you want to make a thick cord, you can double or even triple the number of threads. Tie the threads in a knot at one end, hang the knot on a hook, attach it to a board, or staple it. Start weaving a braid of three threads, alternately placing the right thread on the center one, then the left one on the center one, and so on. Once you have finished the braid, tie the other end in a knot.
Cord tape
Take two double needles and cast on three or four stitches.
* Knit them with knit stitches. Move the stitches back to the other end of the needle, without turning over the work. Pull the yarn tightly.
Repeat from * until you have tied the length of cord you need. This cord is similar to those cords that are knitted on special devices. On stocking needles the cord is knitted faster.
You can buy a special device for knitting such cords, and with one turn of the handle you will quickly tie it. Examples of such devices:
Cord in the starting and ending rows
Cast on as many stitches as needed for the cord, then cast off all stitches on the next row. Do not tighten the loops too tightly, otherwise the cord will turn into a spiral.
Cord woven on fingers
For this cord, take two skeins of yarn of different colors.
1. Make a slip knot at the end of one strand and place the loop around one index finger. Take the second thread in the same hand and hold it together with the first. Insert your other index finger into the loop and pull a new loop of the second color (Figure 2).
2. Remove the thread of the first color from the index finger, transfer the ends of the thread in the other hand and pull the working end of the thread of the first color to tighten the loop (Figure 3).
Continue to pull the contrasting color loop through the loop on finger and tighten the old yarn until you have weaved a cord of the length you need. Cut both threads, then pull one end through the last loop of a different color and tighten (Figure 4).
Lace tied on a spool
From the end side, the coils are driven in at the same distance from center 4 cloves (Fig. 5).
Carnations should be without caps, 0.5-0.7 mm high. The end of the thread is passed through the hole in the spool and pulled out from below (Fig. 6).
The thread from the ball is drawn around the nails (from left to right) so that a loop lies on the spool (Fig. 6, spool on the right).
A second thread is drawn around the top of the first nail, the first thread is picked up with a hook and thrown over the nail. There was a thread-loop left on the carnation, which was used to circle it a second time. Hook up the bottom thread near the next stud. This is done alternately on each stud. Each time, removing the loop from the nail, pull up the end of the thread from the bottom of the spool (Fig. 7).
So, moving the thread in a circle from one nail to another, they knit a cord that comes out from the bottom of the spool. Having tied the cord of the required length, the loops are removed from the nails and secured together with a needle.
When crocheting or knitting children's hats, the question often arises of how to make the ties so that they are beautiful, durable and not too stiff. A good solution is to make laces twisted from yarn. They are not difficult to make and will fit almost any model.
For example, let's make a lace 25 cm long. In order to determine the thickness of the cord, we fold several threads and twist them. We empirically determine how many folds the cord will have. In our case - 8 additions (threads). The number must be even, since we need to divide it in half: the strand prepared for the cord is folded in half. The length of one thread is equal to: the finished length of the cord (25), multiplied by 2 (folded in half) and multiplied by 1.5 (elongation for twisting and processing). We get: 25 x 2 x 1.5 = 75 cm or a little more. We cut off 4 of these threads, fold them in half and attach them to the hat with a loop.
We secure the part tightly, for example, on a folded towel, as shown in the photo, and twist one of the strands. We twist in the direction in which the thread is twisted, usually from left to right (clockwise).
At the end, we secure the twisted strand with a knot so that it does not unwind and attach it with a pin to the towel.
Tie a knot at the end
Then we also twist the second strand and tie both with a knot.
We tie both strands with a knot
As a result, the cord should twist itself if you twist the strands evenly, and not too tightly and not too loosely.
Important : the only drawback of this simple method is that it is not always possible to twist the strands evenly and moderately. You may have to practice first to get good results.
